Dental tourism

Dental tourism in
Colombia, at the
price locals pay.

Barranquilla is the locals' working city hub — with local prices, not tourist ones.

Barranquilla isn't Cartagena. It's a working city where locals live, work and pay local prices for everything — including their orthodontist. Cartagena, Santa Marta and Palomino are short drives away when you want a weekend on the coast.

The reframe

Tourist prices
vs. local prices.

When you fly into Cartagena, Santa Marta or Medellín, you land in cities that were rebuilt around foreign visitors. Restaurants charge tourist prices. Hotels charge tourist prices. And so do the dental clinics that line the historic centres. Barranquilla is different — it's the working city most Colombians on the coast actually live in. Locals shop here. Locals eat here. Locals get their teeth fixed here. You pay what they pay.

Stay in Barranquilla.
The coast is at your door.

Your visits to Barranquilla are short, about two days each, so it's easy to add a few days on the coast. Barranquilla sits in the middle of the Caribbean coast: Cartagena is two hours west, Santa Marta two hours east, and the wild beaches of Palomino and Tayrona are a few hours further. Many patients tack a long weekend onto a visit and drive out on a Saturday morning.

Carnaval de Barranquilla
While you're here

A city locals love,
not one built for tourists.

Carnival is the real thing here — four days of cumbia, mapalé and colour the whole city builds toward all year. Shakira grew up on these streets. García Márquez wrote his first columns from this coast. None of it is curated for visitors.

Evenings

Where the city
actually goes.

The Malecón is the 11 km riverfront boardwalk where Barranquilleros walk after work. Restaurants priced for families who eat here every week. The Magdalena river opening to the sea. Nothing is staged for tourists — which is the point.

How it works

From first message
to final result.

The process for international patients is designed around your life — not around filling appointment slots. Most of the work happens remotely; the visits are focused and efficient.

01

Virtual consultation

Start with a WhatsApp or video call. Send photos of your teeth. Clara reviews them and tells you honestly what she'd recommend, and whether the trip makes financial sense for your case.

02

First visit — two days

X-rays, photos and a digital scan, plus your full Invisalign treatment plan. This first visit takes about two full days.

03

Second visit — aligners

Two to three months later you come back for two days to receive your aligners and have any attachments placed. After this, check-ups are done by video call.

04

Final visit

At the end of treatment, a last trip to remove the attachments and deliver your retainers. Clara schedules it around your life.

FAQ

Questions
you're probably asking.

Is dental tourism in Colombia safe?+

Yes. Colombia has a large, well-established healthcare sector. Barranquilla is a major city with modern medical infrastructure. Clara's practice operates under the same clinical standards as any accredited provider in North America or Europe. The question is whether your specific provider is qualified — Clara has 20 years in orthodontics.

What if something comes up between visits?+

Clara monitors remotely and is reachable via WhatsApp. If something needs attention, she handles it by video call — and if needed, schedules an earlier visit. This is part of how she works with international patients, not an exception.

Do I need to speak Spanish?+

No. Clara speaks English. All consultations, treatment planning and follow-ups can happen entirely in English.

How do I pay?+

International patients typically pay by bank transfer or in cash (USD or Colombian pesos accepted). Clara provides a written treatment plan and cost breakdown before anything starts — no surprises.

What if I need work beyond Invisalign?+

Clara specialises in orthodontics. If you need other dental work — whitening, general dentistry, restorations — she can refer you to trusted specialists in Barranquilla.
